A city we should all know, and most of us probably have come to love is the City of Mississauga.

Well it was not always a city;, before it was made up of many small villages and towns, however in 1974 they were unified as a city in Southern Ontario.

Mississauga is Canada's 6th most populous municipality, and every two decades it has almost doubled in population; in the 2006 consensus, the population was at 668,549.

The name Mississauga came from when traders found First Nations groups around the Credit River; they named them Mississaugas.

The Toronto Township was formed in 1805, when land was bought from the Mississaugas; in 1806, the area was opened for settlement.

The Toronto Township should not be confused with the present City of Toronto.

There were various communities settled, which included Lakeview, Clarkson, Cookeville, Dixie, Erindale, Lorne Park, Port Credit, Sheridan, Streetsville, Meadowvale and Summervale.

With the exception of Port Credit and Streetsville, the township settlements of Lakeview, Cookeville, Lorne Park, Clarkson, Erindale, Sheridan, Dixie, Meadowvale Village, and Malton were amalgamated by a somewhat unpopular provincial decree in 1969 to form the "Town of Mississauga".

In 1974 both Port Credit and Streetsville were annexed by Mississauga when it reincorporated as a city.

Mississauga covers 288.42 square kilometers of land; it is bounded by Oakville and Milton to the west/southwest, Brampton to the north, Toronto to the east and Lake Ontario to the south/southeast.

Mississauga is truly an amazing city to live in, with many communities within it. You can enjoy the classic style of Streetsville, keeping its Village Charm, or enjoy the busy scene of Mississauga Square One. There is always something to find in Mississauga, you just need to know where to look.

You can find the communities listed below, with them linked to their own information.

I hope you enjoy reading what the City of Mississauga has to offer.
